The Málaga-Costa del Sol Tourist Board has welcomed a group of 30 travel agents from Canada working with Preference Vacations, whose fam trip was planned with the aim of activating the marketing of the Costa del Sol in this North American market. They were retail travel agents selling all kinds of travel products, mainly long trips to Europe, golf or entertainment packages, and pre- or post-cruise stays.
The fam trip was aimed at adding value to Málaga and the Costa del Sol by taking the visiting agents to 13 hotels they offer to their clients and designing tours according to the local resources and the offer in the outbound market. We also wanted to cooperate with one of the leading travel agencies in Canada, focusing on off-peak travel, mainly long tours, which account for most of the agency’s sales for Spain.
On the whole, the fam trip was successful in terms of promotion, as we were able to fill the Canadians in on Málaga’s general characteristics, location and accessibility, hotels, entertainment and cultural attractions, hinterland travel, and pre- and post-cruise stays. We stressed the province’s strategic location as a gateway to Andalusia and Spain, and emphasised low-season business opportunities in a presentation held in our headquarters, focusing on the wide range of attractions in Málaga, Torremolinos, Mijas, Benalmádena, Marbella, Estepona, or Ronda. We met with surprise and satisfaction at the programme we designed, thus strengthening our travel destination’s position in the Canadian market.
As a result of this fam trip, we got the Head of Preference Vacations’ support for the marketing of Spain-Málaga-Costa del Sol through increased availability of seats in Air Transat’s Toronto-Málaga flight (a weekly direct flight) for the 2012/2013 season.
