The Tourist Board gets promoted at Italy’s TTG Incontri – Rimini

The Tourist Board gets promoted at Italy’s TTG Incontri – RiminiThe Promotion Department of the Málaga-Costa del Sol Tourist Board has been present in the 48th TTG Incontri – Rimini, the leading trade event for buyers and suppliers in the cultural tourism, city break, and cruise sectors. The event gathered 2,400 exhibitors in 70,000 square metres to welcome 42,700 visitors.

Málaga and the Costa del Sol had a desk at the Turespaña stand, which we shared with Empresa Pública para la Gestión del Turismo y del Deporte de Andalucía. There, we met professional and general visitors (two and one days, respectively).Among those Tourist Board affiliates that came along there were Agitour Viajes, Maravillas Travel, Insur Travel, Smilo destination management, RTA, Meli Tours, Viaggi Andalusiando, Hotel Sol Príncipe, and Gran Hotel Elba Estepona. Our goal was holding meetings with the leading tour operators in Italy already selling Málaga or interested in doing so, to discuss business opportunities and orders, and thus boost sales of our travel destination. In line with our goals, we contacted I Viaggi del Turchese (TUI), Grupo Albatravel, Boscolo Travel, Futurviaggi, Veratour, and Itermar.

On the whole, the Italian market has grown in 2011 by 9.4% for Spain and 6.2% for Andalusia with 1.98 million tourists. This growth is mainly the result of the sharp rise (+12.3%) in August –the month with the peak of travel activity– and the availability for more flight connecting Málaga to Italy.

As for short-term prospects, the winter season is uncertain, given the difficult situation Italy is going through. On the other hand, expectations are high for the summer 2012, when the growth trend observed this year is expected to continue.

Although Italy is a market where Málaga and the Costa del Sol, we need to attend this leading trade event again in future editions, supporting our affiliates and identifying new business opportunities that might lead to a boost in sales in this market.
