About 100 affiliates at the Tourist Board’s DMS workshop after obtaining the Online Trust SealYesterday, the Málaga-Costa del Sol Tourist Board held a training workshop for affiliates on the Málaga and Costa del Sol Destination Management System (DMS). The event, held at the Barceló Málaga hotel, drew about 100 trade members and representatives of Town Halls and regional development associations.
The workshop was aimed at showing travel professionals affiliated to the Tourist Board our new DMS so that they can sell their products online in real-time.The Tourist Board’s DMS is a platform to make an inventory of and georeference all the travel products available in Málaga Province, so that visitors can customise their trips (dynamic packaging), make reservations directly at hotels, buy tickets for tourist attractions, etc.

The Tourist Board’s Managing Director, Arturo Bernal, encouraged trade members to use this new tool, “which is bound have marketing advantages for the travel products included in the platform.”

The Destination Management System developed by the Málaga-Costa del Sol Tourist Board for the website http://www.visitcostadelsol.com has just obtained the Online Trust Seal, enabling it for safe e-commerce transactions. The Costa del Sol is the first travel destination in Spain to have accomplished this.

According to Tourist Board President Elías Bendodo, the Online Trust Seal is a very important achievement, “useful for Internet users and new e-media.” Companies and organisations with the seal are recognised in their commitment and responsibility. “It is a fair recognition to the Tourist Board,” Mr Bendodo said.

Although the number of travellers searching for information on the Web is on the rise, those using the Internet to make reservations or purchases remain the same. This could be related to the security of online sales systems. Therefore, having the Online Trust Seal “is a huge step forward in the marketing of our travel destination,” as described by Mr Bendodo.

The workshop featured lectures on several topics: “What is a DMS and what do we use it for?,” “DMSs in European travel destinations,” “Introduction of the Málaga-Costa del Sol DMS,” and so on. In addition, there was a one-hour training course for accommodation and tourist attraction operators on the use of the extranet for the marketing of hotel stays and tickets in real time.

Other websites displaying the Online Trust Seal in Spain belong to big firms like El Corte Inglés, Carrefour online, or Telefónica, among others.
