The Golf Department of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board has been present in the Ricoh-Women’s British Open, which unfolded from July 28 to 31 at the iconic Carnoustie Golf Club. The Women’s British Open is the most prestigious professional tournament in Europe, drawing the best golfers from all over the world.
Our delegation was part of the Andalusian stand, alongside the Andalusian Royal Golf Federation. The stand enjoyed a good location, attracting lots of visitors in search for information on our travel destination.
Despite the bad weather on day one, we greeted many spectators, for the following days were nicer. However, the event drew a lower number of attendees this year, probably because tickets were £22. In any case, we managed to give out all our promotional materials. Saturday was the day with the most visitors.
During the tournament, our staff contacted golf writers, Ladies European Tour (LET) executives, and agents specialising in golf travel. At these meetings, they discussed the possibility of attending the Senior Open Championship in Turnberry next year, an event attracting the best senior golfers in the world that could have a positive impact on the promotion of senior tourism.
