Canadian travel agents on Costa del Sol, invited by the Tourist Board

The Costa del Sol Tourist Board has welcomed a group of Canadian travel agents after getting a request from the tour operator Transat to get involved in the planning of a fam trip for their best salespeople across the country.

Our role in this fam trip was planning and managing the group’s meals and sightseeing tours on the Costa del Sol as part of their itinerary in Spain, sharing expenses with Empresa Pública para la Gestión del Turismo y del Deporte de Andalucía.

The group, comprising 34 travel agents, wanted to know Málaga’s travel offer. This is why they visited various towns –Mijas, Málaga, Benalmádena, Torremolinos–, where they were able to check for themselves the richness of our cultural industry as a complement to other sectors in our destination. They also tasted a wide array of locally prepared Mediterranean dishes.

Afterwards, our Marketing Department made a presentation of the Costa del Sol at the Tourist Board headquarters with the aim of deepening our visitors’ knowledge of our travel destination and showing the wide range of tourism resources available in our province.

The Costa del Sol’s travel offer aroused our Canadian visitors’ interest. Our destination is part of Transat’s culture and food catalogue for Canadian travellers. They also liked our multi-segment offer, especially the untapped potential of our complementary products and services.

Transat is the only tour operator in Canada offering direct flights to Spain. In addition, they sell holiday packages that include Málaga and their catalogue includes several Costa del Sol-based hotels (Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Málaga City) and tours. They also sell cruises departing from Málaga. Their promotion efforts in the outbound market are invaluable.

Transat is one of the leading tour operators in Canada and hold a strong position in North America and Europe, offering the services of a tour operator, an airline, a travel agency, and a retailer. Canada is an important market in terms of travel budget to spend in destination.

Since 2009, Transat has been the sole operator of a direct flight connecting Toronto with Málaga via Montreal once a week, the only direct flight available from Canada. Canadian tourists can also come to Málaga on Transat tours, which take them to Madrid and other Spanish cities too.

Our Canadian visitors got promotional bags and our support for further enquiries about our travel destination.
